Shema & Modeh Ani Pillowcase - Decorate, Color or Tie-Dye Your Own
» Size: 10x14 inchesShema & Modeh Ani Color-Your-Own Pillowcase Craft
A meaningful and creative craft children can keep beside their bed as a daily reminder to say Modeh Ani each morning and Shema each night.
By combining prayer with a fun, hands-on activity, it helps children become familiar with these important daily prayers and encourages them to make it a part of their everyday routine.
Children can color and decorate the illustrated pillowcase, fill it with stuffing, zip it closed, and enjoy their own personalized Shema and Modeh Ani pillow.
Double-Sided Design
Modeh Ani Side: A girl is sleeping as the sun rises, with Modeh Ani in Hebrew, transliteration, English translation, and the song “Oh, Every Morning.”
Shema Side: A boy says Shema under the moon, with Shema Yisrael in Hebrew and transliteration. The full prayer is not included, based on guidance received, to avoid children sleeping on a pillow containing Hashem’s name.

How to Decorate
You can decorate your pillow using:
-
Washable: Regular markers, colored pencils, crayons, washable paint, puff paint, or other craft supplies.
(These are great for temporary decorating but may wash out.) -
Permanent & Washable: Fabric markers or permanent markers. These are the best choice if you want your design to stay on the pillow after washing. Always follow the marker manufacturer’s instructions for the best results.
-
Tie-Dye Instructions
- Pre-wash the pillowcase before decorating (optional, but recommended).
- Lightly dampen the pillowcase with water.
- Twist, fold, or scrunch the fabric, then secure it with rubber bands.
- Apply fabric tie-dye to the exposed areas.
- Place the pillowcase in a sealed plastic bag and allow it to sit for 6–8 hours, or follow the dye manufacturer’s instructions.
- Rinse with cold water until the water runs mostly clear.
- Remove the rubber bands and allow the pillowcase to dry completely before adding the stuffing.
Before coloring or decorating, place a piece of cardboard inside the pillowcase to prevent the colors from bleeding through to the other side.
For an extra-special effect, use Glow-in-the-Dark Pens so parts of the design glow at night.
When the decorating is complete, fill the pillowcase with stuffing and zip it closed.
Filling Instructions: One 7oz bag of stuffing fills approximately 1 or 1¾ pillows, depending on how firm you make each pillow.
